Neva Howell Lands Iconic Ma Kent Role in James Gunn's DC Epic

Georgia native Neva Howell is set to embody the iconic role of Martha Kent, the nurturing Earth mother of Clark Kent, in the highly anticipated Warner Bros/DC Studios' production of Superman, under the direction of filmmaker and studio co-boss James Gunn.

This casting announcement follows closely on the heels of Pruitt Taylor Vince securing the role of Pa Kent, Martha's devoted husband.

Howell joins a distinguished lineage of actresses who have portrayed Ma Kent on the silver screen, including Phyllis Thaxter in Richard Donner’s 1978 Superman, Eva Marie Saint in Bryan Singer’s 2006 Superman Returns, and Diane Lane in Zack Snyder’s 2013 Man of Steel.

In addition to Howell, the Georgia shoot of Superman boasts an impressive ensemble cast, featuring Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, David Corenswet as the titular hero, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and a stellar lineup of supporting talent including Skyler Gisondo, Sara Sampaio, Wendell Pierce, Nathan Fillion, Isabela Merced, Edi Gathegi, María Gabriela de Faría, and Anthony Carrigan.

Noteworthy among Howell's previous credits are roles in Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Long Haul and Steven Soderbergh’s Logan Lucky.

Superman marks the inaugural chapter in Gunn and Peter Safran's revitalized DC Universe, aptly titled "Gods and Monsters."

Gunn elaborated on the project during a DC press event in January 2023, emphasizing that the film delves into Superman's journey of reconciling his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing, embodying the values of truth, justice, and kindness in a modern world.

Warner Bros, with its storied history of Superman films, anticipates yet another box office success with this latest installment, which is slated to hit theaters on July 11, 2025.

With Howell's addition to the cast, excitement continues to build for what promises to be an epic cinematic experience, blending action, drama, and a fresh perspective on the beloved superhero narrative.
